Big Spur Lodge hosted the Retriever Journal's First Annual Wingshooter's Getaway. You can click above or on the "Magazine Articles" link below to read the article written in the Retriever Journal "Reflections on Late Season Roosters" by Steve Smith.

Pictured above is Mike Lardy, 5 times national retriever championship handler, with a Chesapeake named Glory. Mike and Glory were at Big Spur for that hunt, along with several others with their fine dogs and even some Master Hunters who hunted their first wild pheasants with us.

Dogs Are Allowed!

Dogs are not only allowed - we encourage you
to bring your dog for the hunt of a lifetime!

Experienced dogs evolve into fine tuned bird dogs and inexperienced dogs are privy to more bird scent and more birds in a three day span than most would be able to encounter in years elsewhere.
Encountering large numbers of WILD birds gives them the opportunity and experience they need to step up to the next level.

Fine dogs become bored and nonchalant with released or pen raised birds
and preserve hunting scenarios after a time.

They need a challenge, and a wild pheasant hunt that is 100% wild birds is exactly that!

Don't want to have to leave your dog in an outside kennel?
That's okay - the game room wing of our lodge is set aside specifically for those hunters who would rather keep their best buddy indoors with them!
We also provide:
  • Outdoor kennel facilities
  • We set aside one week of hunting season per year at our lodge for an exclusive training-hunting seminar combination.

Train your dog under actual hunting conditions on strictly wild pheasants. Some of the best hunting over dogs occurs in December. The crops are out, the birds are grouping up, and they're holding well for good pointing opportunities. Click here for more info....

And of course - ALL breeds are welcome!!
